Our story.

Kia ora and welcome to Botanical Kitchen. We’re so glad you’re here.

I’m Penelope, and together with my husband Nick and our kids, we run Botanical Kitchen from our family home in sunny Wellington, tucked right between Parliament and the Botanic Gardens.

Ours is not a faceless brand. We’re a real family who has built this business with our own hands, from our off-grid tiny house and country gardens in Otago to a new life in the city. Along the way we’ve run cafés, boutique grocers, and country gift stores, grown herbs and flowers, and made flower-topped, herb-studded cakes for weddings and farmers’ markets. Always linked by the same thread: a love for plants and their power to heal, nourish, and bring joy.

I’ve been a medical herbalist for over 20 years, as well as a trained naturopath, nutritionist, and chef. My passion is weaving these worlds together, infusing herbs into chocolate, tonics, cakes, and skincare, so that plant medicine feels easy, beautiful, joyful, and accessible every day.

Botanical Kitchen is our way of sharing that joy with you. Every product is hand-formulated in small batches by me, in our registered commercial kitchen, using carefully sourced ingredients and time-honoured herbal wisdom. Nothing mass-produced, nothing soulless, just thoughtful, nature-led creations that our own family uses daily.

We believe health is about connection, to food, to nature, to God, to community, and to pleasure. We hope you feel that in every jar, bottle, and recipe.
